The oldest evidences of casted objects in general, weapons and ritual objects, are dated to the period 3000 BC. By year 1400, the first evidences of cast iron products are found in Europe. In the middle of the 15th century items such as water pipes and bells were produced from cast iron. The first period of artistic applications for iron casting started in 1500 by producing plates for stoves, ovens, monuments and fountains.
Since those days, numerous developments have focused on the field of materials and production technology. Our business in PREIS is the usage of the cast iron material in a very specific and sophisticated range of applications.
Gray iron is generally used as a common engineering alloy. This is because of good machinability, which results from the graphite lubricating the cut and breaking up the chips. Galling and wear resistance are also good because the graphite flakes self lubricate. The graphite also gives gray iron an excellent damping capacity because it absorbs the energy. It also experiences less solidification shrinkage than other cast irons that do not form a graphite microstructure. The silicon promotes good corrosion resistance and increase fluidity when casting. Gray iron is easy to weld.
Due to its manifold possibilities in the processing and shaping, grey cast iron can be used in many ways and applications such as motor housings, gear housings, pump parts, engine beds, etc.
PREIS is internationally recognized and established brand name supplier for high quality grey and ductile cast iron parts and products. The headquarters of the company PREIS is located in the heart of central Europe, in Austria, and production site FERRO-PREIS is also near, in north Croatia. Sales offices are situated on both locations.
With the aim to constantly develop ourselves, we are also tirelessly on the lookout for new tasks and partners with whom we can jointly pursue new projects.
Continuous improvements and investments in co-workers and technology provide us since the middle of 20th century, our strong position on European market.
